Daria Spampinato is an expert in computer science specializing in Digital Humanities (DH). Her current research interests primarily revolve around text encoding, digital epigraphy, and the Semantic Web.
She has been involved in various DH projects aimed at enhancing and promoting cultural and literary studies, including the digital collection of the epigraphs of the Castello Ursino Museum of Catania, through the
project EpiCUM, and the
BellinInRete project, concerning the semantic organization of the heritage of the Belliniano Museum. Additionally, she recently assumed responsibility for the CNR units in two projects related to computational modeling in Italian literary studies: PAVES-e, concerning the creation of an Archive-Edition of Pavese’s work, designed according to FAIR principles, and to the Linked Open Data paradigm; and COVerLeSS, in which the CNR Unit is responsible for the digital ecosystem of the secondary literature to the literary production of the Italian Verismo.
For nine years since 2021, she was also a member of the Scientific Council of the
Centre for Humanistic Informatics (CINUM) at the University of Catania as an expert scholar. She is affiliated with the Italian
Association for Digital Humanities and Digital Cultures (AIUCD), where she has served on the National Executive Board (since 2014), with the position of Secretary since 2021. She is the Chair of the Programme Committee and proceedings editor of the AIUCD2018 and AIUCD2024 conferences. She regularly reviews papers for several international conferences and journals and has authored numerous publications in both conferences and journals.
