He works as researcher in CNR from 1966. His research interests center around the cognitive development of children, child thought and behavior, and the relationship between child cognition and educational methodology. He has long been interested in the relationship between children and the cities, so he has created the international project “The City of Children”, which promotes autonomy and participation of children to life of city. This Project is the focus of ISTC Laboratory of Psychology of Child Participation. Known with the pseudonym of FRATO, Francesco Tonucci is also a very popular cartoonist. His sketches about children’s life have been translated in Spanish (Castilian, Catalan and Galician), French and Portuguese.
