LABSS is an interdisciplinary research group operating at the intersection of cognitive, social, and computational sciences. It was founded in the 1990s by Rosaria Conte, a cognitive scientist and scholar of social dynamics.
Coordinated by Giulia Andrighetto, LABSS employs a variety of methods and approaches, including agent-based models, behavioral experiments, and survey-based experiments, to study human cooperation and social dynamics.
The study of human cooperation includes topics such as social norms, reputation, punishment, and aggression, and is applied to domains such as climate change, pandemics, and online misinformation. Recently, LABSS has been exploring how cooperation and social norms evolve within hybrid collectives composed of humans and artificial agents.
LABSS is based at the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC) of the National Research Council (CNR).
